Connecting the Pearl and Old Town in Portland, Oregon starts with connecting the communities. Introducing a community hub directly north of the Broadway Bridge creates a destination on the waterfront and gives a sense of place to the surrounding residential areas. By defining the language of street and bridge in this area, a series of pedestrian bridges across the train tracks can serve as much-needed thoroughfares to connect both sides and increase pedestrian activity.
